UPDATE: Nearly 100% of the debris from the capsized 40 foot fishing vessel, the Miss Elora, has been removed from the beach and waters at Westport's Westhaven State Park. After a majority was removed during the beach clean up that took place on August 6, there were still several large pieces of the vessel embedded in the sand and perhaps most dangerous of all it's engine and other wreckage from where it originally ran aground remained in the water near the low tide line where daily dozens of surfers and swimmers were in it's vicinity and much of the time totally unaware of it just under the surface.
Several local citizens connected with area State Parks rangers about the dangers present and even offering their personal resources to remove the remaining debris, however it was through the Washington Department of Natural Resource's Derelict Vessel Program who brought in a dive and slavage team which arrived on the scene at the start of the week. They were successful in hauling out the remaining wreckage both in the water and on the beach.
A big thanks to South Beach area citizens who remained diligent in their efforts to convey concerns to area agencies to get the right folks on the scene to help expedite the debris removal.
