Army Corps Invites Public Input on Westport Erosion Study

The Army Corps of Engineers will be holding a public meeting this Wednesday, January 21st from 4-7pm in Aberdeen at the Port of Grays Harbor Commission Chamber to discuss alternatives in addressing the long-term maintenance of Westport’s South Jetty (Half Moon Bay) erosion issues. As surfers, beachgoers, fisherman, and concerned citizens of coastal Grays Harbor it’s important that we are knowledgeable of the Corps’ plans and work with them to develop a plan that, as much as is possible, protects the recreational and ecological values of our beaches.

The meeting will begin with an overview of their work thus far and a breakdown of alternatives. The room will form small groups to discuss these alternatives and generate comments/concerns. The meeting will then reconvene for discussion and feedback. Comment cards will be provided and verbal and written input is being encouraged. The Corps will be releasing a final assessment of these alternatives in April/May and at that time will announce an official public comment period. The agenda will include: Overview and presentation of work thus far and description of “alternatives;” narrowing down a list of 15 alternatives for further analysis; and inviting public input and questions.
